Those are also fair questions.

The short answer is "Karma".

I've had so many near death experiences that my sister tells me if I were a cat, I'd be on life number 7 or 8. This last one though. That was a game changer.

Here's the short version: I thought for sure I gave myself a hernia at the gym somehow back in 2024. Went to the Urgent Care, the ER doc took one look and said "Yep. Go get a CAT scan to be sure". So I got CAT scan. Strangely, no hernia was identified but something else caught my attention when I reviewed the report with my doctor.

It said: "Right kidney absent"

Wait...what? So apparently I was born with only one kidney! At age 67 that was quite the revelation considering I've had enough xrays for all manner of injuries and no one noticed before.

But the rest of the report was frightening. A noticeable spot on that lonesome kidney turned out the be the big C - Clear Cell Renal Carcinoma to be exact. Luckily for me, a month later, one of top oncologists in the US, at Duke University removed it without any damage. He also told me that I got very lucky because that form of cancer is well known for its aggressive invasiveness and tendency to mastastasize quickly.

Put another way, I seriously dodged a bullet.

Now consider this. Kidney cancer is most often asymtomatic until it's far too late to treat. If I hadn't gotten that hernia (which then miraculously disappeared) I would have never known about that cancer and very likely died, or at the very least, lost my only kidney and be on dialysis for the rest of my life. Doesn't that sound to you like the universe was trying to tell me something? It certainly did to me. So this? This is just one way I'm giving back.

But why you?
